Our Mission
The Iranian -American Community of Maryland is a non-profit, non-partisan organization representing the community of Iranian-Americans residing in Maryland.
We join together with other like-minded groups in our area to engage on various local and global issues, to promote bridge-building, human rights, civic responsibility, and cultural and religious tolerance. IAC-MD organizes events, engages with State and National officials, and works closely with human rights organizations, religious leaders and community organizers to promote the democratic and tolerant values of the Iranian diaspora. We encourage our members to actively engage in the political process.
IAC-MD advocates for a democratic, secular and non-nuclear Iran, founded on respect for human rights, gender equality, religious and ethnic tolerance, and social justice. We strive to educate local and national policy-makers and the media on topics important to Iranian-Americans.
IAC-MD is one of over 40 Iranian-American communities in various states across the United States, who have joined together as a grass-roots movement under the umbrella Organization of Iranian-American Communities-US (OIAC).
Our Activities
IAC-MD joins with our sister communities across the nation to celebrate Persian heritage and culture, sponsoring and organizing events to mark traditional holidays such as Mehregan, Chahar-shanbe-suri (Festival of Fire) the Persian New Year, Nowruz, etc. We strive through such gatherings to bridge the cultural divide between our older members who have experience these holidays in our homeland, Iran, and the younger generation of our children and grandchildren, as well as our non-Iranian American relatives and neighbors.
IAC-MD also has an active and vibrant relationship with our national representatives, in an ongoing effort to raise awareness among our political leaders and representatives of the issues and challenges important to our community. We believe our unique perspective as both Americans, and as Iranians, enables us to contribute to the national conversation regarding Iranian-American policy.
