Press Release
WASHINGTON – A broad bi-partisan coalition of 165 house members joined Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-05) today to announce the introduction of House Resolution 100, voicing support for the Iranian Resistance Council’s ten-point plan for a democratic, secular and non-nuclear Republic of Iran.
McClintock expressed the representatives’ united support for the protests in Iran, the opposition to the harsh oppression imposed by the regime over its own people, and its export of violence and terrorism throughout the Middle East.
This resolution recognizes that the current protests are rooted in more than four decades of organized resistance against the Iranian dictatorship, which, for years, has been led by women who have endured torture, sexual and gender-based violence, and death.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, addressed the press conference virtually, “I am confident that this revolution will succeed, because the people of Iran are determined to end this regime and they are willing to pay the price for it.”
The resolution refers to “support for the opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for the future of Iran, which calls for the universal right to vote, free elections, and a market economy, and advocates gender, religious, and ethnic equality, a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence, and a nonnuclear Iran.”
The resolution “calls on relevant United States Government agencies to work with European allies,” to hold Iran “accountable for breaching diplomatic privileges, and to call on nations to prevent the malign activities of the Iranian regime’s diplomatic missions, with the goal of closing them down and expelling its agents.”
H.Res. 100 urges the United States to “be involved in any establishment of an international investigation into the 1988 extrajudicial killings” of thousands of political prisoners in Iran, mostly members of the main Iranian opposition movement, the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK).
McClintock, commended the grass roots work of Iranian-American communities all across the United States for their relentless advocacy in being the true voice of the Iranian people by reaching out to their Members of Congress, evident in the high number of original co-sponsors of this resolution.
